Obituary of Tillie Hausler
Tillie Zusman Hausler, age 91 of Albany, NY died Tuesday evening October 14, 2014 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home
The Hausler family lost its matriarch with the passing of Tillie. She was the
one whose kitchen was always open, with great traditional fare in the oven. It
was always a comfortable place to be, and the center of family life. Her nieces
and nephews were always around, riding their bicycles to join the rest of the
group.
An Albany native, she would share stories of growing up in the South End. Born
December 15 1922 to Goldie and Hyman Zusman, she was predeceased by her
siblings, Morris, Cecelia and Sam. She is survived by her brother and sister in
law, Bill & Sebley Hausler. In 1945 she
married Irving Hausler, and they began a life together that would last until his
passing in 2002.
Tillie worked for the state for over 20 years, retiring to snowbird to Florida.
She was an active participant in Hadassah and ORT. The family were long time
members of Temple Israel.
Tillie and Irving had two children- Bette (Stephen) Stracher and Dr. Gerald
(Karen) Hausler. She was beloved Nana to Hilary (Jeffrey) Teitel, Andrew, David
and Dr. Theodore (fiancée Jessica Dunton) Hausler. Hilary & Jeffrey made her a
great grandmother with the arrival of Zachary and Chloe.
Services were held on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the Levine Memorial Chapel in Albany with interment in the Independent Benevolent Cemetery in Albany
A special thank you to some extraordinary people. Sharon Dombrowski, her
companion, was as loving as any relative could be. The staff at Daughters of
Sarah MEU and gold units were truly caring.
Shiva will be at the home of Bette & Steve in Albany on Saturday, and Gerry &
Karen in Niskayuna on Sunday, 7pm both nights.
In lieu of flowers contributions to a charity of your choice will be
