Obituary of Shari Knieling

Shari Markovits, Knieling age 91 of Albany, NY died on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at St. Peters Hospital in Albany. Born in Zeteney, Czechoslovakia , Mrs. Knieling resided in Queens, NY for many years moving to the Capital District in 1991 to be close to her family. She resided in the Ohav Shalom Apartments in Albany for 22 years. Shari enjoyed gardening and the greatest pleasure in her life was her family. She was married to her husband and best friend of 52 years, Waldemar Knieling until his passing in 2000. Survivors include a son, Eric Steven Knieling and his wife Rose Ann of Guilderland, NY and a daughter, Ida Ruth Domfort and her husband Howard of East G Greenbush, NY. Grandmother of Rachel (Steven) Gottheim, and Marcus Domfort. She also leaves special friends, Gladys Evans and Susan and Ira Sclar and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Morris and Ida Markovits as well as her siblings who perished in the Holocaust, Bela, Antol, Rosa. Hermina and Pepi. Other siblings also predeceased her. Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue Albany on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 11:00am. Interment will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland, NY. Those wishing to remember Shari may make a memorial contribution to the Holocaust Museum, Houston, 5401 Caroline Street Houston, Texas 77004 or a charity of your choice. The period of mourning will be observed at the Knieling residence, 636 Top Ridge Drive in Albany on Sunday from 4-7pm with a minyan service at 6:30pm. Monday from 5-8pm and Tuesday from 2-5pm.
