Obituary of Gilbert Schlamowitz

Gilbert (Gil) Schlamowitz, age 88 of Albany, NY died on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at his residence. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mr. Schlamowitz was a graduate of the Lafayette High School in Brooklyn; He was a Navy veteran and served from 1946 to 1947. He had been employed as a court reporter for the NYC District Attorney’s Office and was later employed in the same capacity for the New York State Court of Claims from 1962 until his retirement. Gil was a member of Temple Israel and served as their Gabbi. He was an avid sports fan, golfer, volleyball player and racquet ball player. Gil is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Doris Friedman Schlamowitz. He was the devoted father and best friend of Eric Schlamowitz and his wife Katie Horch of Marlton, New Jersey and Heidi Schlamowitz of Miami, Florida. Brother of Vernon Schlamowitz of Brooklyn, NY and Rhoda Wenig of Babylon, NY. Grandfather of Carly Schlamowitz and Abby Feintuch. Uncle of Lynda, Barbara, Brenda, Nina, Charlene, Rhonda and Aaron. Services at Temple Israel, 600 New Scotland Avenue Albany, NY on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 10:00am Interment will be Tuesday afternoon in the United Hebrew Cemetery in Staten Island, NY. The period of mourning will be observed at the Schlamowitz residence, 1B Westford Street in Albany on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Those wishing to remember Gil in a special way may make a memorial contribution the the Cantor’s Discretionary Fund at Temple Israel in Albany,
