Obituary of Gloria Lee Massry
Gloria Massry passed away early Wednesday morning, August 13th, 2014, in her home in Boca Raton Florida. She was 88. Her natural strength and endurance allowed her to persevere through a long illness.
Gloria was born in Elmira, New York on April 30, 1926, the only child of Elizabeth Heller (later, Welliver) and Herbert Heller. After the accidental death of her father, she grew up during the Great Depression in sometimes difficult but always loving circumstances. She lived in Niagara Falls, NY in the early 1950s, working as the Executive Secretary to the President of the Maids of the Mist Company. After marrying her husband Abe Massry in 1956, Gloria moved around the eastern United States, she and Abe starting businesses in several cities. In the early 1960s, Gloria and Abe settled into a summer business in Lake George, NY, living in Latham, NY during the rest of the year. While raising a family and working along her husband, she also gave tirelessly of herself to different causes, including Haddassah, for which she served as Regional President; Sisterhood; and the local PTA. After moving the family to Boca Raton, FL in 1979, she continued to give back to the community in many ways.
Gloria was a loving wife and mother, a loyal friend and a confidante to many. Her husband, Abe, passed away in 2008. She is survived by her sons Isaac Norman (fiancé, Denise) and David Evan (husband, Matthew), as well as many sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Her life touched many people and she will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
