Obituary of Melvin Weissman

CLIFTON PARK - Melvin Weissman, 89, passed away on September 11, 2011 at the Albany Stratton VA Hospital in their nursing home unit. Born in Brooklyn, NY on February 1, 1922, he was the son of the late Dora and Nathan Weissman. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 56 years, Sylvia Laskowitz Weissman in 2004. He was also predeceased by his wonderful daughter, Mona Weissman Glass in 2003 and his sisters Anna Kuriloff and Violet Basen. Survivors include his beloved daughter Diane Weissman Silverman, son-in-law Mark Silverman and grandchildren Evan Glass (Jason Gedeik), Erica (Christopher) Rome and Todd and Jason Silverman. He is also suvived by his brother, Harold Weissman, sisters-in-law Pauline Laskowitz and Fran Weissman and many nephews and nieces. Melvin was a WWII POW. He was in--camp for almost 2 years at Stalag 17. He was a flight engineer flying B-17s with the USAF, 94th Bomb Group, 331st Squadron, out of Bury-St. Edmunds, England. He was shot down on his 11th mission on January 11, 1944. Funeral services will be at Beth Moses Cemetery Pinelawn, LI on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 11:00am. Shiva will be at the home of Diane & Mark Silverman, 7 Boyack Road, Clifton Park (exit 8) on Wednesday, September 14th and Thursday, September 15th at 7:30 PM. Diane & Mark want to thank Dr. Richa Kaushik, Dr. Vinay Das, Dr, Julie Phillips, Dr Roberta Flesh, NancyJane Batten and Dr. Roy Mathew. A special thank you goes to the nursing staff on Hero's Way, 9-B for all their love and support. They were fabulous not only to Melvin but to his family.
