Donald S. Koretz, M.D. of Delmar, New York died on Friday evening, August 5, 2011at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Born in Albany, Dr. Koretz was a lifelong Capital District resident. He grew up in Ballston Spa, New York. He was a graduate of the University of Rochester as well as New York University where he received his medical degree. Dr. Koretz did his residency and internship in Albany. He was in the private practice of Psychiatry for many years and retired in 2010. He was a member of Congregation Beth Emeth and se veral medical societies in the Capital District.
Dr. Koretz is survived by his loving wife, Judith Berinstein Koretz, and 2 daughters, Amy Savela and her husband Jason of Boulder, Colorado and Debra Koretz of Bridport, Vermont.
A memorial service will be held at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road in Albany on Monday, August 8, 2011 at 1:00pm. The family will be receiving friends and relatives at Congregation Beth Emeth commencing at 12:15pm on Monday. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family and the family will also be observing the traditional period of mourning private as well. Dr. Koretz's family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staffs at the St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albany, the Good Samaritan Lutheran Home in Delmar, NY 1 and the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospice in Albany for the kindnesses shown to Dr. and our family during his illness... As a final act of kindness, Dr. Koretz has made an organ donation for research.
