Obituary of Edna Karp
EDNA MEYERS KARP
1919-2011
Edna Meyers Karp, age 91 died peacefully at her Slingerlands, NY residence on August 3, 2011. Edna was a lifelong resident of Albany and was a graduate of Phillip Schuyler High School. She worked for the State of NY where she met the love of her life, Harry Richard Karp. The couple enjoyed over 60 years of marriage, savoring their travels to Europe and Israel as well as trailering with family and friends in the Northeast.
Edna was a member of Hadassah, Congregation Beth Emeth and the Albany Jewish Community Center where she sang in their choral group for many years.
Mrs. Karp was predeceased by her parents, S amuel and Rose Meyers, her loving husband, Harry Karp and her 3 sisters, Bertha Ginsberg, Dorothy Meckler and Eva Ginsburgh. Survivors include her sons, David Karp (Theresa) of Chapel Hill, NC and Mitchell Karp of Niskayuna as well as her grandsons, Samuel, Gary and Benjamin Karp. She also leaves a great grandson, Damion Richard Karp and her lifelong friend, Bertha Sussman in addition to many devoted nieces, nephews and friends.
A graveside service is scheduled for Monday, August 8, 2011 at 11:00am at the Beth Emeth Cemetery on Turner Lane in Loudonville, NY. A reception honoring Mrs. Karp will take place on Tuesday, August 9 from 2-4pm at the Beverwyck, Krumkill Road in Slingerlands, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Edna Karp may be made to St. Peter's Hospice, 315 South Manning Blvd. Albany, NY 12208 or a charity of one's choice.
