Obituary of Sara Talanker
Sara Talanker, age 96 of Springfield, Virginia died peacefully at home on Thursday, June 9, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. Sara was born in St. Johnsville, New York, on March 22, 1915, and lived her teenage years in Schenectady, where she graduated high school. She lived most of her life in Albany, NY, and married David Paul in 1939. Thereafter, they operated Paul's Jewelers until Dave's death in 1969. In 1970, she began working for the State of New York and was married to Murray Talanker from 1971 until his death in 1994. She was a member of Temple Israel in Albany and Hadassah and was a past-president of Abigail. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, tennis, and playing bridge.
She was the cherished daughter of Lena and Harry Goldberg, and the sister of Hy Goldberg (Marion), and Betty Gaies (Joe). She was the beloved mother of Norman Paul (Pamela); grandmother of Shawn Mijo (Ann) and Brian Mijo (Amy); great-grandmother of Jennifer Ramsey (Michael), Christopher, Calvin, Alex, Cheyanne, Katie, Lili and Austin Mijo; and great-great-grandmother of Nicholas, Samuel, and Daniel Ramsey. She deeply loved her family and her friends.
Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel 649 Washington Avenue Albany on Sunday , June 12, 2011 at 1:00pm. Interment will be in the Temple Israel Cemetery, Guilderland, NY. The family will be observing a private period of mourning in Springfield, VA.
