Obituary of Shirley Atkin

SHIRLEY ATKIN 1925-2011 Shirley Schaffer Atkin, age 85 of Wall Township, NJ, former long time Albany, NY resident died on Saturday morning March 26, 2011 at her residence. Born in NYC, Shirley was a graduate of NYU. For more than 40 years, Shirley worked at the patient information desk at St. Peter's Hospital. She was a member of Temple Israel in Albany and a former member of the Shaker Ridge Country Club in Colonie where she enjoyed playing golf. Shirley also enjoyed playing mahjong. Shirley was the loving wife of Nelson "Bud" Atkin until his passing in 1997. Today, March 27, 2011 they would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. She is survived by her devoted children, Bruce (Marna) Atkin of Guilderland, NY and Jill (Glen) Asher of New Jersey. Cherished grandmother of Stacey Grossman (Matt), Allison Asher (fiancé Jeremy Bier), and Shelby Asher. Shirley will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother and treasured her time in New Jersey being close to her grandchildren. Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue Albany on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at 12 noon. Interment will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland, NY. The period of mourning will be observed at the home of Bruce and Marna Atkin, 222 Heritage, Apt 208, Guilderland, NY on Sunday from 7-9pm and throughout the day and evening on Monday.
