Obituary of Lottie A. Reed

LOTTIE ALTMAYER REED 1921- 2011 Lottie Altmayer Reed passed away on Monday, March 7, 2011 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home at age 90. She was born on January 20, 1921 in Floersheim , Germany. She was the only child born to Herman and Clare Altmayer and grew up in the home that also housed the family bakery. Her parents sent her to England at the age of 17 to escape Nazi Germany where she survived the London bombings and worked as a nanny for an English family. She immigrated to the United States in 1942 via Canada and was later reunited with her parents in New York City. She married Fred L. Reed, a dentist, on December 13, 1951, and worked as an assistant and receptionist in her husband's office. She and Fred lived in New York City until 1995 when they moved to Albany to be closer to their family. Her greatest pleasures were the company of family, friends, and her dog Lola. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred, who died June 4, 2006. She is survived by her children Peter (Thea) and Terry (Nancy) and her grandchildren Billy, Brian, Mallory, and Scott. Services will be private however the family invites friends to visit the home of Peter and Thea Thursday, March 10th, from 7 to 9pm. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff in the Memory Enhancement Unit of the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home for their compassionate and outstanding care and support.
