Obituary of Pearl G. Clevenson
Pearl Groopman Clevenson, age 93 of Keyes Ave., Schenectady passed away on February 14, 2011.
Born in Wilkes Barre, PA. on February 12, 1918 she was the wife of Sam S. Clevenson until his passing.
She worked for Carrier Corp. in Syracuse and New York City, where she met and married Sam Clevenson in 1952.
The Clevensons lived in Springfield, Mass., and Boston before moving to Farmington, N.H., where they owned a weekly newspaper. Their children, James and Laurie, were born in Springfield and Rochester, N.H., respectively.
The Clevensons moved to Schenectady in 1963, where Sam became an editor at the Union-Star, and they founded The Jewish World weekly newspaper in 1965.
Mrs. Clevenson was active at Congregation Agudat Achim and in many jewish groups, and was an ardent supporter of Israel and the jewish people. She served many charities including one for AIDS patients.
She loved reading and music and in her youth wrote hundreds of poems. Contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of ones choice.
Services will be held on February 16, 2011 at Congregation Agudat Achim, 2117 Union Street, Schenectady at 1:00 p.m.. Interment will follow in Agudat Achim Cemetery, Rotterdam, New York
