Obituary of Iola Goldberg

Iola Goldberg, 81, passed away peacefully on December 6th surrounded by her family. Iola was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Louis and Rose Skolnick. In addition to her parents she was pre-deceased by her adoring husband Jerry in 1998. A graduate of Lincoln High School , she attended New York University. Upon graduation she toured as a member of the Darlin Sisters, a professional singing trio. During a performance in Troy, she met and fell in love with her dear Jerry. Music and the arts would remain a vital part of her life, serving as a member of the Action Council at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center as well as volunteering her time to many civic and cultural organizations. Iola had a passion for life, a wonderful sense of humor and a spirit of adventure coupled with boundless energy, including a mean forehand swing in her tennis game. Her large circle of friends would marvel at her summer excursions to the Berkshires for a show or concert during the day followed by a night time ballet or orchestra performance at Saratoga. She was know for her ability to exude love. her laughter, gentle disposition and kindness and she will be missed greatly by her devoted friends and family. Survivors include her sons Eugene Goldberg and his wife Amy Lazarus of Montclair, NJ , Adam Goldberg of Washington D.C., and Russell Todd and his wife Kim of Valley Village, CA, beloved grandchildren Ben and Jake Goldberg, and brother Edward of Long Beach, CA. A memorial service celebrating Iola's life will be held at Congregation Beth Emeth100 Academy Road in Albany at 2pm on December 9th. A reception will follow immediately after.
