Obituary of Minnie Strassberg

Albany, New York Minnie Strassberg, 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 30th at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home in Albany, New York. She was born in New York City on January 27, 1915, the daughter of Harry and Pauline Glickman. She is survived by her son Richard(Marilyn) of 93 Hillcrest Avenue in Albany, a granddaughter Pamela R. Strassberg(Albert Cromling) of Delmar, NY, and a grandson, Michael D. Strassberg(Naomi) of Elizabeth, New Jersey. She was the great grandmother of nine. Mrs. Strassberg was predeceased by her husband Harold in 2000, a son, Peter, in 1973, and seven brothers and sisters. Mrs. Strassberg was born in New York City where she spent her youth. Her family owned a Rumanian restaurant on the lower East Side. She had fond memories of growing up in a large family and living above the restaurant where her mother was the chef. Minnie became skilled in the kitchen herself and enjoyed cooking for her extended family well into her 70's. Minnie worked for a few years as a clerical after high school until she married in 1939. She and her husband set up housekeeping in Brooklyn where both of their extended families also resided. Harold worked as a fur finisher until his enlistment in the US Army during World War II. After the War, he spent several years as the co-owner of a service station in Brooklyn and ultimately went into the building maintenance business. Harold's business was in New Jersey; and their family moved to Elmwood Park in 1955, at which time Mrs. Strassberg returned to the workforce, selling women's clothing in several clothing stores. She was also active for as a volunteer fund-raiser for the Deborah Hospital Foundation in New Jersey for many years. Mrs. Strassberg and her husband moved to Ithaca, New York in 1998 to be near their son and daughter-in -law. She then joined them in their move to Albany this fall, residing at the Daughters of Sarah. Minnie's son and daughter-in-law, her nephews, and nieces, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will remember her fondly for her unfailing love and gentle kindness and generosity to them all. Mrs. Strassberg 's graveside service at the Cedar Park Cemetery, 735 Forest Avenue Paramus, will take place on Friday, December 3rd at 11:30 am Those wishing to make contributions in Minnie's memory may do so to their favorite charity or to the Deborah Hospital Foundation (20 Pine Mill Road Browns Mills, NJ 08015).
