Obituary of Anna Leah Ziffer

Albany, New York ANNA ZIFFER Anna Amazon Ziffer, age 87 of the Massry Residence in Albany died on Friday morning, October 29, 2010 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home in Albany. Born in Schenectady, NY, Mrs. Ziffer was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady and had been employed at the General Electric Company up until the time she had children. Anna was a teacher's aid in the Niskayuna School System for many years and was retired. She was a member of Congregation Beth Israel in Schenectady and Past President of their sisterhood and was also a member of the Sisterhood at Congregation Agudat Achim and a member of Hadassah. Anna also did volunteer work at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home and was a reading volunteer in the Albany Public School System and volunteered as well at the Bellevue Maternity Hospital. She enjoyed bowling, golfing and tennis and was an avid reader. Anna is survived by her husband, Paul Ziffer, and children, Ellen (Eric) Kerness of Niskayuna, NY, Carole Bieber (Michael) of Slingerlands, NY and Jerry Ziffer of Lake Worth, Florida. Grandmother of Sheri (Matt) Krugman, Lisa Kerness, Jordan and Alexa Bieber, Michael, Alison, Kaili and Zach Ziffer. Great grandmother of Sam and Leah Krugman. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. Services will be held in the chapel at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center, 180 Washington Avenue Extension in Albany on Sunday October 31, 2010 at 1:00pm. Interment will follow in the Beth Israel Cemetery, Abbottsford Road Rotterdam, NY. Those wishing to remember Anna in a special way may make a memorial contribution to the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center or Congregation Beth Israel, 2195 Eastern Parkway, Schenectady, NY 12309. The period of mourning will be observed on Sunday and Monday at the home of Ellen and Eric Kerness, 1357 Stanley Lane in Niskayuna, NY and on Tuesday and Wednesday at the home of Carole and Michael Bieber, 273 Longhouse Lane in Slingerlands, NY with a minyan service each evening at the respective residences at 7:00pm. Anna will always be remembered for the love she had for her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Anna's family would like to express special thanks to Drs. Thomas Goodman, Duncan Savage, Gerald Hausler and the staff of the Massry Residence and the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center in Albany for the care given to Anna during her illness.
