Obituary of Barbara Iselin

BARBARA HELLMAN ISELIN Barbara Hellman Iselin died on September 1, 2010 at St. Peter's Hospice,. surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of Alan, to whom she was married for more than 58 years, the proud mother of Joanne, Linda, Harold and Gayle and their spouses, Don, Dave, Lauren and John. She was the beloved daughter of Edith and Neil Hellman. Barbara was adored by her ten grandchildren, and they were a source of great joy to her. A lifelong resident of Albany, Barbara graduated from St. Agnes School. She was an active member of her community, serving on many boards, including St. Margaret's Center, Albany Medical Center and the Albany Public Library. Barbara was especially involved with Congregation Beth Emeth where she served on the board of directors and was an active volunteer in virtually every aspect of Congregation life. Nothing was more important to Barbara than her family and friends. She gave willingly of herself in caring for her parents and was always there whenever her family or friends needed her. In fact, Barbara was at her happiest when she was helping others. Barbara accomplished all of this with grace and style even when facing her own health challenges. She will be missed by everyone. . In addition to her husband and children, Barbara is survived by her sister, Joyce (Sanford) Bookstein, by her grandchildren Jacob, Julia, Michael, Alex, Dana, David, Justin, Max, Corey and Sam and by many nieces, nephews and cousins to whom she was devoted.. . The funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road. The family will be sitting shiva at the home of Lauren and Harold Iselin, 23 Windsor Ct., Delmar, NY on Saturday and Sunday evening at 7:30 PM. No flowers please. Contributions in Barbara's memory may be made to Congregation Beth Emeth.
