Obituary of Phillip Gallen

GALLEN Dover, Delaware Gallen, Phillip Andrew, Dover, Delaware, formerly of Albany NY, died peacefully in his sleep the morning of Thursday, June 17th 2010. Phillip was the dearly beloved friend of Robert King. He is the brother of Rachael Angelini of Rennselaer NY, and Michelle Golonka (Michael) of Albany NY. He was the Uncle of Matthew and Mason Golonka and Anthony Angelini, and godfather of Vivian Renee Pinckney. He was predeceased by his parents Edgar and Joyce Gallen. Phillip was born in Amsterdam NY on October 11th 1961. He attended Paul Smith's College and Schenectady Community College. At the time of his passing he was employed by the State of Delaware's Department of Transportation where he served as Toll Corporal at the Dover Toll Plaza. Phillip had a huge heart and loved to spend time with his Mother until her passing in January of 2009. Philip demonstrated this devotion by working side-by-side with her for many years at the Modern Maturity Center of Dover, Delaware, a nonprofit organization committed to providing programs and services that enhance the quality of life, with respect & dignity for individuals age 50 plus. Following his Mother's death, Philip continued this tradition up until his own passing. He was a tremendous culinary creator, and made many special meals for his family while living in Albany, NY, and later for his friends in Dover. He loved to travel, especially in the cruise world. One of his most special times was aboard the QE2. He always traveled in the best of style. Phillip was also very generous, and donated to many charitable causes including: the Congregation of the Sons of Israel, Amsterdam, NY; the Hudson River Keepers; and the Alzheimer's Association. He loved birds, and had quite a few of his own. Phillip will be deeply missed by his friends, family, co-workers, and most especially by his favorite canine companion, his most beloved Lego. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday June 22, 2010 at the Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 South Bradford Street in Dover, Delaware.
