Obituary of Ruth Sumberg

RUTH MANN SUMBERG Chevy Chase, Maryland Ruth Mann Sumberg, 90, of Chevy Chase, Maryland, formerly of Albany, New York, died on Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. Ruth was born in Albany, New York, where she resided for most of her life prior to relocating to Chevy Chase in September 2007. She graduated from The Milne School in 1936, Pembroke College (now Brown University) in 1940 and received her Master's of Business Administration degree from New York University in 1942. During World War II she served as a sergeant in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps. Her marriage to Lewis A. Sumberg ended in divorce in 1961. Ruth was the daughter of the late Joseph Henry Mann and Helen Mendleson Mann. She is survived by a son, Steven Mann Sumberg, of Washington, DC and a brother Joseph H. Mann, Jr. (Helen). She was the aunt of Mary Ellen Klein (Alan), Anthony R. Fischer, Jr. (Susan), Joseph H. Mann, III and Patricia Mann. Ruth was predeceased by her daughter, Billie Sumberg Daffner, who died in 2002. Services will be held in the Mendleson Chapel at Beth Emeth Cemetery, Turner Lane, Loudonville, New York on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at 2:00 pm.
