Sarah Larner Kahn of the Beverwyck Community on Autumn Drive in Slingerlands, NY died on Friday May 1, 2009 at her residence. Born in Albany on December 11, 1917, the daughter of Frank and Anna Larner. She attended Albany schools, graduated from Albany High School in 1935, and never missed a class reunion. She was a Democratic Woman of the Legislature, enjoying her years of service to New York State in the 1970's and80's. She was a lifelong member of Temple Israel. Also and avid Yankee fan, Sarah hardly missed a game on the YES Network, or a chance to recap. Sarah brought joy to those around her.
Her loved and beloved daughter, Karen Kahn Weber an her son-in-law, Mark, her granddaughters Jordana Kaufman and her husband Samuel, and Valerie Alhart and her husband, Jon , survive her. She also had the joy of knowing her great-granddaughter, Madeline Kaufman. Her two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Kahn Segal and Molly Larner, and her brother-in-law, Marvin Kahn, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. She was pre-deceased by beloved husband, Arnold and her beloved son, Jerrold, as well as her brother, Abraham Larner, and her sisters, Molly Greenberg, Rose Spitz, and Lillian Silverman.
Sarah and Arnold were instrumental in raising their niece and nephews, Estelle, Lee and Allen Greenberg, after the death of Sarah's sister, Molly.
Services at Temple Israel 600 New Scotland Avenue in Albany on Monday May 4, 2009 at 2:00pm. Interment will follow in the Hebrew Tailors Association Cemetery on Western Avenue in Guilderland, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sarah's memory to the Jerrold Kahn Youth Equipment Fund at the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish Community Center, 360 Whitehall Road, Albany, NY 12208. The period of mourning will be observed at the home of Mark and Karen Weber, 100 Orlando Avenue in Albany on Monday evening from 7-9pm.
