Obituary of Susan Winig

Susan Winig, 81, died on Tuesday, March 1st, 2016 peacefully at home with her devoted family by her side. She was born February, 10th, 1935 in Forest Hills, New York. Sue was a resident of Albany, New York and the Capital District for over 60 years. Beloved wife of the late Donald Winig for 48 years. Cherished mother of Jeffrey Winig of Saratoga Springs and Marcie Bruno of Cambridge, New York. Loving and adored Nana to Jeremy and Kasie Winig, Joshua Winig, Alyssa Bruno and Dena Bruno. Devoted friend of the late Richard Friedman. Susan is survived by many close friends and relatives. Susan attended Miami, University. She was a nurse’s aid at St. Peters Hospital and worked at the Macomber Plastic Surgery Group. Sue was a Girl Scout leader at the Trinity Institute and Forts Ferry Elementary School as well as a Brownie leader. She volunteered at the Cerebral Palsy Center in Newtonville, New York and also volunteered at Albany Memorial Hospital for 25 years in both the Emergency Room and The Diabetes Education Center. She was a former member of Temple Israel and The United Order of True Sisters.a life member of the Albany Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Green Island Senior Citizens Center, Relay for Life and a member of the Red Hat ladies. Sue has left her remains to Albany Medical College Anatomical Gift Program. She felt extremely strongly about this program. The family of Susan would like to thank those at the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County who provided loving and compassionate care for the last 2 months of her life. A memorial service will be held at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Ave. Albany, New York on Sunday, March 13th 2016 at 11:00 am. The family will be present at Levine Memorial Chapel prior to the service. Immediately following the memorial service all are welcome to celebrate Sue's life at the Hilton Garden Inn at 1389 Washington Ave. Albany, New York. The family will be observing their period of mourning Sunday evening from 6:30 to 9:00 pm. again at the Hilton Garden Inn. The family will also observe on Monday evening, March 14th from 6:30 to 9:00 pm at Sue’s home , the Cornerstone Bldg, 4 George St. Apt. 3 G Green Island, New York. Sue was a 36 year Type I diabetic. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions may be made in Sue's name to the local Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at 950 New Loudon Rd., Latham, New York 12210 or The Community Hospice of Rensselaer 295 Valley View Blvd. Rensselaer, New York 12144.
